Kitchens We Have Built
Full-Service Kitchen Renovation: What's Included
You're hiring a licensed general contractor with over 30 years of experience who manages the entire project — not a cabinet company that outsources the rest.
Kitchen Layout & Design
Every good renovation starts with the floor plan. We design around how you prep, cook, and gather — L-shape, U-shape with island, or full open concept — and if the room needs more square footage, we handle room additions and bump-outs too.
Custom Cabinetry & Storage
Custom cabinetry built to your space, not off-the-shelf boxes: soft-close drawers, pull-out organizers, deep pantry systems, in shaker, raised-panel, or flat-front styles.
Countertops
Quartz, quartzite, granite, marble, and butcher block. We'll match the surface to how you actually cook and clean — quartz for durability and low maintenance, quartzite when you want natural stone with heat resistance.
Kitchen Island Design & Build
Custom islands with seating, prep sinks, storage, and power — from space-saving peninsulas to full waterfall-edge centerpieces.
Backsplash & Tile Work
Subway tile to handmade ceramic, installed in-house with tight grout lines and clean edges.
Kitchen Flooring
Hardwood, engineered wood, luxury vinyl plank, porcelain tile, and stone — chosen for kitchen abuse and Ventura County's coastal climate.
Kitchen Lighting
Layered systems: recessed general light, island pendants, under-cabinet task lighting, and accents. Bright for work, warm for evenings.
Appliances, Plumbing & Fixtures
Professional ranges, flush built-in refrigeration, farmhouse sinks, pot fillers — with all the electrical, gas, venting, and plumbing re-routing done right, including 240V circuits and dedicated hood venting.
Kitchen Styles We Build in Ventura County
Ventura County homes span decades of architectural styles, and your kitchen remodel should respect the character of your home while bringing it into the present. We've remodeled kitchens in every style:
- Modern kitchen: Clean lines, flat-panel cabinets, integrated appliances, quartz waterfall islands, and minimal hardware for a sleek, uncluttered look
- Coastal kitchen: Light, airy spaces with white or pale blue cabinetry, natural wood accents, open shelving, and bright tile backsplashes. Perfect for coastal homes and beachfront properties in Oxnard and Ventura
- Farmhouse kitchen: Shaker cabinets, apron-front sinks, butcher block counters, warm wood tones, and vintage-inspired hardware that feels welcoming and timeless
- Transitional kitchen: The sweet spot between modern and traditional. Updated finishes and clean layouts with enough warmth and texture to feel livable, not sterile
- Spanish or Mediterranean kitchen: Hand-painted tile backsplashes, arched doorways, wrought iron accents, and terra cotta or Saltillo tile. A natural fit for many Spanish-style homes and haciendas in Santa Barbara
How Much Does a Kitchen Remodel Cost in Ventura County?
Kitchen remodel cost depends on the scope of work, materials, and the size of your space, and we price every project line by line before work begins. Here's how the tiers break down, with typical timelines:
| Scope | What's Included | Timeline |
|---|---|---|
| Cosmetic refresh | New countertops, backsplash, paint, hardware, lighting | 1 – 2 weeks |
| Mid-range remodel | New cabinets, countertops, flooring, appliances, lighting, minor layout changes | 4 – 6 weeks |
| Full kitchen renovation | Gut to studs, layout changes, wall removal, custom cabinetry, premium finishes | 6 – 8+ weeks |
What actually drives the number: cabinetry is the biggest single line in almost every kitchen, usually around a third of the budget. Layout changes multiply cost because moving the sink or range drags plumbing, gas, and electrical along with it, and appliances are the wildcard — the same kitchen can swing enormously between standard and professional-grade equipment. Wall removal adds engineering. Finishes are where you have the most room to save without it showing.
That's why we don't quote kitchens over the phone. David prices every project line by line at the walkthrough, shows you where the budget is best spent, and tells you where you can save without sacrificing quality.
Our Kitchen Remodeling Process
1. In-Home Consultation
David visits your home, evaluates the space, and flags the structural, plumbing, or electrical issues that will shape the design. Free, no obligation.
2. Design & Material Selection
Cabinets, counters, tile, flooring, fixtures, and appliances — coordinated so everything works together, with the cost implications of each choice laid out plainly.
3. Permitting
We run the full permit process with the building departments in Oxnard, Camarillo, Ventura, and Santa Barbara. The paperwork never becomes your problem.
4. Demolition & Construction
Demo, framing, rough plumbing and electrical, drywall, and finish work — with the site kept clean, your home protected from dust, and the schedule held. Most full remodels run 4 to 8 weeks.
5. Final Walkthrough & Handoff

Questions About Kitchen Remodels in Ventura County
How long does a kitchen remodel take?
Most full kitchen remodels run 4 to 8 weeks from demolition to final walkthrough. Cosmetic refreshes finish in a week or two. When a schedule slips, the culprit is almost always appliance or cabinet lead times rather than construction — which is why we order long-lead items before demo day, not after.
Do I need a permit to remodel my kitchen?
If the project touches structure, electrical, gas, or plumbing — and most real remodels do — yes. Swapping countertops and painting cabinets doesn't need one. We handle the permit process with your local building department either way, so the answer never becomes your problem.
Can we live at home during the remodel?
Most of our clients do. We set up a temporary kitchen station with your refrigerator, microwave, and coffee maker, seal the work zone off from the rest of the house, and clean up at the end of every day. You'll eat more takeout than usual for a few weeks. You won't live in a construction site.
Is it worth remodeling the kitchen before selling?
Usually — an updated kitchen is the strongest room in a Ventura County listing. But not always, and we'll tell you which one applies to your house. David has talked more than one homeowner out of a remodel that wouldn't have paid for itself.

Review
David did our kitchen remodel, which involved new cabinets, counter tops, serving space, flooring, lighting, and appliances. The project also included opening up the our family room space to the kitchen. The work was done very professionally, and we are extremely pleased with it. We would hire Nicodemus Construction without hesitation should we ever have further construction needs.
